Myths about Carpet Cleaning

1. You should wait as long as possible to get your carpets cleaned. Wrong! Dirt is the greatest destroyer or carpet. From a microscopic view dirt is full of sharp edges and left in the carpet they will cut through the fibers, prematurely wearing the carpet out. As you walk into the house you are bringing pollutants/chemicals, fungus etc that bet embedded in the carpet. You wouldn't wear a shirt/blouse everyday for a year without washing it. Finally check your carpets warranty/mfg care instructions. Most will use every 6 months to a year, depending on usuage.

2. All carpet cleaning methods work fine. Wrong! The Institute of Cleaning and Restoratioon (IIRIC); the rulebook for carpet cleaners; has approved many different methods of carpet cleaning. They leave it to the trained technician on site to determine the best method for your carpet based on age, overall condition, and usage.

3. My carpets will be wet for days. Wrong! Correct carpet cleaning methods should have the carpet dry within a 1-6 hour time frame. Because most carpet cleaners use steam, alot of humidity is pumped into your house. You should help the carpet dry faster by cranking up the air conditioner (to remove humidity) and turning off ceiling fans, portable fans etc.

4. Carpet cleaning will destroy my soil/stain protection. Wrong! Carpet cleaning will actually extend the life of your carpets, by removing the dirt/bacteria that cut up the carpet fibers. However all soil/stain protectants will wear off over a period of time/usage and should be reapplied every two years on average.

Steps to Determine the right carpet cleaner for you:

  1. What method do you use and do you provide a warranty on your work?
Are you licensed, insured, and have your employees pass backgroud checks?
How long have you been in business, and what training have you completed?
What do you charge, do you provide a written quote, Is this the total price?
Do you charge extra for heavily soiled carpet, or to pretreat stains?
How often should I get my carpet cleaned?
    What furniture will you move?
What do I need to do prepare for carpet cleaning service?
How long will it take before I can walk on the carpet?

  2.  Don't stop there: check up on the carpet cleaner by checking with the Better Business Bureau; look them up online and check for reviews; and ask friends/neighbors for reviews.
